The bonobo is a very rare and intelligent creature. They have a tremendously interesting social structure which is unlike any other. In the bonobo world, the females rule the house. Along with gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees, bonobos are a part of the great ape family. Scientists used to believe that the bonobo was a smaller version of the chimpanzee. They would use the term “pygmy chimpanzee” to refer to the bonobo. In reality, bonobos and chimpanzees are quite different. Bonobos tend to have a slender body with a small head and very tiny ears. Bonobos tend to eat a variety of foods. They usually eat leaves, stems, fruits, worms, insects, and sometimes small fish. When it comes to territories with bonobos, there aren't any. Bonobos handle and tension between themselves by using different methods instead of aggression. Bonobos are found in the Democratic Republic of Congo located in the country Africa. Their habitats tend to be in forests and span around 500,000 square kilometers. Bonobos are at a high risk of going extinct from human activity. People living in the Congo Basin who are struggling to survive slash and burn trees, wiping away the bonobos' habitats. There is only around 15,000 bonobos left, and that number is still dropping.
