OUR RESEARCH
WHAT WE DID
We decided to make a survey to see how informed people are about endangered animals and apes. One huge way to help endangered species is making sure people are aware of what is happening to them and knowing that everyone understands how much humans affect these animals. In our survey, we created a series of questions to test people's knowledge. Our goal is to see what people already know and figure out how to make people more aware of what is truly occurring.
AGE
It is important to have a variety of ages taking our survey so the results are more accurate. Imagine if everyone who took the survey was the same age. This would lead us to only knowing how aware that age of people are of the situation. We wouldn’t be able to compare how different ages of people answer the questions differently.
THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT
We decided to put this as our first question on our survey so we right away had an overview of what people already knew. Over 80% of people got this question correct by stating that the Endangered Species Act was a program to conserve threatened and endangered animals and their habitats. I think that it is very good that our community knows about the Endangered Species Act and what it does. It is important that they know about it because the more aware everyone is of these global issues, the more people that can join together to help solve these problems.
ENDANGERED ANIMALS
This question told us what people truly think an endangered animal is. Based off of this answer, we can see how aware people are of what endangered animals really are. With only 31.9% of people answering this question correctly by marking the last option, it tells us that there are very few who actually know what an endangered animal is. Not enough people are completely aware of the situation of endangered animals. Like I had claimed previously, the more people that are informed of this, the more that can help to solve the problem.
LAWS
Laws can do many things to help protect endangered animals. The correct answer to this question was option 1 and the majority of those who answered got it correct. The more people know about the laws and programs protecting endangered animals, the more they realize that they should join. If we all pitch in a little of our lives to help save animals, it will lead to a much better environment and world that we live in.
PREVENTING APE EXTINCTION
This question was to see what people’s ideas were after taking most of our survey, We wanted to see what everyone was thinking about the best way to help endangered apes. Majority of people claimed that the Endangered Species Act helped the most. The Endangered Species Act makes the largest impact on helping animals. If a species is listed as endangered, it is illegal for any person under the U.S. jurisdiction to "take" that species. In other words, people can't harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, collect, or attempt to do any of these things to any endangered animal. Every one of these options helps endangered animals, however. Different people might think some help more than others. It is important to know that there are many solutions to endangered apes and all still play a part in saving them.
