Chimpanzees are endangered. In 1990, wild chimpanzees were listed under the U.S. Endangered Species act. The U.S. is home to 1,724 captive chimpanzees which 730 of are in labs. In 1960, Jane Goodall started studying chimpanzees in Gombe Park, Tanzania and she continues to study them today. Jane Goodall had taught the world more than anyone else has. Chimpanzees have become considered an endangered since 1990. Pet trade, deforestation, and poaching are main element that made the chimpanzees endangered, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). As of 2015 an estimated 300,000-400,000 live across 22 countries in Africa. Though 2,000 chimpanzees are in captivity in the United States.
